Family Movie Night and Wine Pairings: What To Sip While Watching Your Family Favorites
Share
We’ve had a tradition in our home for years now and it’s one we all look forward to. Friday nights are our nights together as a family and what better way to close out the week than with a pizza and movie night?
We love making homemade pizzas and letting the kids create their own delicious masterpieces adds to the fun (Bonus mom points if you can shape a few into hearts or another fun shape!). We all get into our cozies and once the pizza is ready we slice and divvy it up and settle in for our chosen flick.
Parenting tip: Choose the movie beforehand to avoid any sibling debates!
While the kids devour their masterpieces, Brad and I will open a bottle of wine and pour a glass to enjoy during the movie. We’ve put together some fun movie and wine pairings to make movie night just a little more magical, for the parents, at least.
Moana & Rte Blanc from Clif Family Winery
This delicious, uplifting Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with the tropical, vibrant vibes of Moana. We love sipping this bright white alongside a homemade veggie pizza.
Fun fact: This is Brad’s favorite movie to watch with our kids and always his first pick.
Wicked & Mumm Brut Rosé
This pink, light and bubbly sparkling wine is perfect while singing along to “Popular” with your kids and it even matches Glinda’s dress, adding a little glitz and glam to the evening. This Brut Rosé is the perfect pairing with a simple Margherita pizza.
Add an extra sparkle: When it’s time for Elphaba’s big finale song, grab pretend microphones (flashlights work well) and let the kids sing their hearts out…right now might be the perfect time to top off your glass of sparkling wine ;)
The Sandlot & Flowers Pinot Noir
A classic baseball movie calls for a classic red wine. This Pinot Noir, with its ripe berry notes, pairs perfectly with The Sandlot especially during baseball season. We like to drink this with a mozzarella, pepperoni, and black olive-topped pizza.
Get into character: Have your kids wear their favorite jersey's and let them create their own baseball themed pizza… cover the pizza in mozzarella cheese and use olives and pepperoni to mimic the laces of a baseball.
Mufasa & Faust Cabernet Sauvignon
This Cabernet is bold, rich, and full of character, making it the perfect match for Mufasa’s strong, legendary presence. It’s our go-to when we want something big and delightful. Pair it with a spicy pizza: we love pepperoni, Bamba sauce, Italian sausage, and cubes of melted mozzarella.
Fun Idea: Our kids love snuggling with their stuffed animals. Let them grab their favorite stuffies and set them up on the couch for added comfort during the movie.
Frozen & Frank Family Chardonnay
Let the week go, just like Elsa and Anna as you enjoy this beautiful, full-bodied Chardonnay with rich fruit and oak spice. It is perfectly paired alongside a pizza topped with arugula, pears, and prosciutto. A little fancy and a little fun.
Make everyone smile: If your kids are like ours, popcorn is a MUST during movie night. Once they’ve devoured their pizzas, we love doing “dessert” popcorn. We’ll put some sweet treats at the bottom of their popcorn bowls (marshmallows, M&M’s, chocolate chips, etc.) so they have a fun surprise once they get to the bottom of the bowl. This always brings smiles!
Friday nights are our favorite and this is a tradition we hope to continue. What traditions does your family enjoy? Whether it’s pizza and movie nights like ours or something unique and different, we’d love to hear about the fun ways you spend time together so please share your favorite traditions as a family in the comments.
